    However, in most of the complex systems, it is not possible to pin down these initial conditions. This can be explained through the principle of butterfly effect which aims at showing how behavior of a system has sensitive dependence on the initial conditions. Coined by mathematician and meteorologist Edward Lorenz, the principles states that flapping of the wings of a butterfly in Tokyo could cause a hurricane in Texas. We might not be able to trace the chain of events which led to the effect- but that such a positive nonlinear phenomenon occurred is real.

    It is not possible to predict the behavior of a complex system. But most of the complex systems appear stable and predictions are possible. A complex system appears stable because of negative nonlinearity.
